James Horan
Chief Executive Officer and Board Member
Mr. James Horan is the Chief Executive Officer of Y-Carbon, Inc. and the former Chief Operating and Financial Officer for Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center and its affiliated companies. He was a co-founder of LScan Technologies, Inc. As a seasoned financial executive, he was responsible for directing and executing a comprehensive range of accounting, financial and operating functions including investment analysis, raising private equity, cash management, tax planning and strategic planning. James has held previous positions with Deloitte & Touche, Katz Capital (LA Weight Loss Centers), LScan Technologies, Inc. In addition to his auditing and financial compliance experience, James is also an Adjunct Professor in the LaSalle University and Delaware Valley College Graduate School Program, lecturing courses in Mergers & Acquisitions, Financial Management, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, and Financial Statement Analysis. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of LaSalle University with a BS in Finance and an MBA in Finance. James is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association for Financial Professionals, the Association for Corporate Growth – Philadelphia Chapter, and also holds memberships in the American Accounting Association and the American Management Association.
Dr. Ranjan Dash
Founder, Chief Technology Officer and Board Member
Dr. Ranjan Dash has over 8 years of work experience in diverse fields ranging from ceramic manufacturing and software development to research and development in materials science. Ranjan is an alumnus of the A.J. Nanotechnology Institute, where he did his research on the core technology that Y-Carbon is commercializing. He has a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering. He was the first student at Drexel University to pursue a dual degree of a Ph.D. and MBA. He was awarded the 2006 Award for the Best Dissertation by a student in engineering and physical science of Drexel University. He was also awarded the 2007’s international Carbon Prize, sponsored by Elsevier, for his doctoral research. Recently, Ranjan received the Drexel University’s 2009 Young Alumni Entrepreneur Award. He is also recipient of the 2009's Young Innovators Under 35 Award from Massachusett Institute of Technology’s Technology Review Magazine.
Prof. Yury Gogotsi
Founder, Chairman of Scientific Advisory Board and Board Member
Dr. Yury Gogotsi is a tenured full Professor at Drexel University and Director of the A. J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute. Yury has experience of over 20 years in the fields of materials science and nanonotechnology, he holds over 30 patents, he authored 2 books, edited 12 books, contributed to 14 book chapters, published more than 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals including 3 papers in Nature and 2 papers in Science and is a recipient of numerous national and international research awards, including two R & D 100 Award, Nanotech Brief's Nano 50 and S. Somiya Award from the International Union of Materials Research Societies. He is an editor of Carbon (Elsevier), which is the highest ranked journal in the carbon materials field. The core technology of Y-Carbon was developed by various members of his group at Drexel University.
